The Platform Committee Meeting

Today and tomorrow, the Platform Committee is meeting in Miami. I have placed a copy of the initial draft of the 2004 Democratic Platform up on the site http://platform.smartcampaigns.com. This gives everyone a chance to read the platform and to comment.

The site is also set up so that any delegate or platform committee member can have their own blog. One member, Marla Camp has arrived in Miami and is busy checking in. She did spend a few minutes writing some initial comments.

This evening there will be various receptions, including a progressive caucus reception and a Florida State Dems Reception. Petitions by the Kucinich campaign will be presented at these receptions.

After the receptions are over many platform committee members are expecting to stay up late and discuss proposed amendments.

The meeting starts tomorrow at 9 and is supposed to be covered on C-SPAN. Hopefully, both this evening and tomorrow, platform members, as well as interested parties around the country will communicate back and forth through the platform site, as well as by email and cellphone to make the whole event more inclusive and help energize Democrats around the country.
