Early morning, August
Out of curiosity, why do you blog? Is there more to blogging than sharing 'gifts', vanity publishing, and staking a claim to participate as an active creator - to not settle for consumption only? Just for the Hell of it?
Please make a gift of your answer as a comment.
Thanks,
Jock

Why do I blog? Might as well ask why I breathe.
I have been a writer since I learned about the English language. I will be, always.
I have written on deadlines since I was 15, and I love the freedom blogs give to create your own deadlines, your own story lines.
Of course, I'm still learning about this medium. There's a lot more to learn.
I hope to continue.
But even if they kick me out of the blogosphere, I'll still write. Every day.
Like Dana, I've always been a writer. It's the way I express myself best, and the way I express the best of myself... oooo I like that :) Also, psychotherapists love to talk because they have to listen all day long!
But I blog here because it keeps me sane and it keeps me positive. When my soul has been saturated with negative swill and I feel like I'm on the verge of either ranting or retreating into depression, I sit down and write a positive, forward-looking, or educational blog entry and it helps me refocus and reconnect with the best of who I am. It gives me hope.
I also blog here because I sense that we're about a larger purpose. We do more than analyze the news, we ponder a larger picture--the vision of a greater democracy. And being able to stand in the middle of a whirlwind and contemplate a better future is not easy... but it is o so vital! So thank you, Jock, and all who write here.
Unlike Dana and Elissa, I am not a writer. A visit to my blog will no doubt make that painfully evident.
However, a few years ago I was forced to leave my profession of Photography by a disablity that has left me with only partial use of my lungs. This slowed me down physicaly real fast, but my brain never stopped its daily travels.
I was fortunate to discover the world of computers and cyber space and not long ago led me to the Blogging Community. It has been a therapy as important as everything else, and the chance to participate with others in the world. I have been able to view the personal lives of others. Their frustrations and victories as they to do what we all do everyday to have a worthy existance.
The start of this political season has made it very apparent that the freedoms we have as Americans to enjoy this communicating medium could in fact be in jeprody of taken from us. I have found a great many who share my feelings in this area, and this "Blogging" is the best way for individuals to connect and share their thoughts.
Thank you for so many thought provoking articles here at Greater Democracy, and with luck, I may continue to become better at what I am trying to do.
