“My son’s life was not frivolous”

In today’s New York Times, Robert Pear writes: “that four television networks had turned down its request to run an advertisement opposing President Bush's effort to clamp down on medical malpractice lawsuits.” He noted that the “networks said the advertisement violated their standards for advertising on controversial issues.”

By doing so, the fourth estate is failing its duties to promote public discourse about the issues that are most important to all Americans.

Michael Powell had suggested that we didn’t have to be concerned about media consolidation because of the emergence of new media. To a certain extent he is right. We can all go and view the banned advertisement online at http://www.usaction.org. I hope everyone does. I hope everyone encourages all of their friends to do this and I hope everyone engages in discussions about how best address the medical liability issues our country faces.

However, the reality is that at this point in the development of media many more people would have seen the advertisement if the networks were being proper stewards of the public airwaves that have been entrusted to them.

Have you visited this website. Anybody who believes this dribble deserves what they get. but the Goverment should folow its own beliefs. As the tabacco companys face another 280 billion dollar lawsuit. But back to this group, I read everything on this website, but did not find what caused the brain damage to there son. John Edwards has made millions blaming Dr's for not doing c-sections and causing damage to baby's.
There needs to be caps on lawsuits and a child is worthless, it earns nothing and has no liabilitys. While Dr's should be held responsable for damages. The dollar value is questionable. While I feel sorry for anybody who is wronged, it would be better to have a system that pays a fair amount.
This group has an agenda which is wrong in many ways. Where I live it costs 15k a child per year for school. 40% drop out and 60% pass. I also dropped out of highschool after 8th grade. How much money needs to be spent, how much is too much.
I have busted my balls, to make a 6 figure income. And I dont need to pay more taxes. I am also non-white. I have made myself a success. Not school, not handouts but hard work.
The economy is created by business and tax breaks should start there. Or they will leave or out source jobs. Dumbass's like these think that tax increases on corperations will ease the problem, not likely.
They also mentioned having more cops, why to issue more tickets. Bust me for a joint, or to keep coffee shops safe. None will stop crime. Cops clean up after crime's occur. But rarely stop crime.
Goverment does not solve problems it is he problem. 8 years of Clinton and schools got worse our military got weaker and the CIA was gutted. For people who think they are progressives, I think you need to travel more. I have visted 3rd world nations such as Costa Rica, India not to forget Mexico. You have never seen anything like it in America. In America the poor want to be poor, act like gang bangers, thugs and pimps. Nice little white kids in suberbia dressing gangsta. And parents buying the clothes.
When will we learn we reap what we sow. We cant have our children raised in day care. With out a cost, and a large cost it is. Those women who think they have a right to a career and a family are to blame. Raising kids is a full time job. And I do understand that many women would prefer too raise there kids but cant afford it, need to examine there lives and make sure that it is true. Between tax breaks and part time work anything is possible.
The sooner we learn that anything is possible with drive and desire. The sooner this country will grow and get better. We still are one of the greatist country's to live in. 60% of those living in povery own homes. You will never go hungry unless you want to. Stop blaming the goverment and blame yourself. If it takes working 2 jobs then it takes 2 jobs. People think Dr's have it easy. True after 10 years of college and several years of working for nothing as interns. Life gets much better. I am 35 and my friends who became lawyers and Dr's have almost paid off there school loans.
So continue worrying about the rich and go out and get some for yourself. Remember you will never get rich watching the clock and not working overtime. And for all of you who use the EU as an example, take a look at there unemployments rates. Or maybe you would like to live in Germany who wont pay your young wife unemployment if she is unilling to work in a whorehouse. I wish all you cry babies a chance to see real suffering and real pain. So you will know how easy we have it.
